Stanton did really prefer meeting in Shephard's apartment, all told. Not only did Lawrence seem less interested in repeatedly breaking, entering, and tampering with it, the place just felt a little more home-like. Which, sad as it was to say, might have had a lot to do with the fish. Even a very small pet did a lot to soften the confines of the space they were given.
Ever the good guest, she did set about to preparing the tea, the routine only more comforting with the flurries of snow coming down outside.
Having guests wasn't particularly novel, often times she didn't have enough time in the day to give interviews, or even spend time with the people she really would like to. The difference here, being, she had the free time, but never had the occasion. The holidays were rushed things, parents sending an extranet card, getting a few extra creds on your bonus check... in all, not something to sit down and spend time with family. She'd always been mobile, the idea that one should travel to a specific place to celebrate holidays on a planet she hardly visited seemed... impractical.
So, she spent a good portion of her focus on the presentation of the gift she was going to give. Presentation was important no matter the occasion, Stanton could appreciate that with her upbringing, her chosen career. And if anyone understood how different this truly was, it would be Stanton... so she wanted to make it special. It had taken some time and effort, a few odd jobs that trickled through... enough to pay for Spartacus' food and a few gifts. Her ladies in arms were particularly close to her heart.
Once she was satisfied, she appeared with a box held in both hands, carefully wrapped in a festive green with silver embellishments and a silver bow to top it off. "Rumor persists that the English still brew the best tea in the galaxy."
"I can't imagine the Chinese and Indian contingents are very happy with that," Stanton muses, finishing with the kettle and giving a wry half-smile to her task. She trusts Shephard enough that she doesn't stop work to look at her when she approaches, she she's already setting everything on the tray when she glances at her and sees the box she goes still, a look of consternation flitting across her face.
"--It's not a matter of necessity," she levelled a look at Stanton, one brow lowered with her grin firmly in place. Three steps more had her standing close enough to hold it out to her, both arms extended, bent at the elbows. "If it were necessity, it wouldn't be a gift, it'd be... practical." This was practical, however, and she wouldn't have Stanton, a capable woman in her own right, stay bereft of an item she knew she would wield admirably.
"Also, their objections have been noted. Foxtrot informed me this is part of tradition here, and I have also heard tradition is sacred."
I do what I can to try to help. Risking my life has always been part of that equation. I am, actually, fine by the way. Let me know if they approve your time off.
[ Shepard hadn't been immune to the effects of seeing things, visages, hauntings... but she saw that before she showed up in Sanctum. Whispers of the lost, nightmares... part of the job, and she couldn't lose her cool, so she kept it to herself. Old habits died hard. Still, it brought a smile to her that someone would check up on her. ]
You know I always have your back if things get rough. Need a distraction? I'm game for letting off a little steam.
[ well not everyone's universe likely had aliens intent on wiping out their species due to religion.. ]
Suffered a 'glitch' with the ports in my back. Spent about 5 days in a coma. Far as Whiskey can tell, all's well, but I'm not to overexert myself. So it's a few more days before I can go back to work.
How've you been doing?
[Since...Well, you know. Even if you didn't lose your leg or get stabbed or clocked upside the head by a hoverbike.]

[OOC: I THOUGHT I'D REPLIED TO THIS and then. nope. Found it still in my to-tag list. I'M SO SORRY. T_T If you want to drop/handwave this, that's fine, it's completely my bad for not responding sooner.]
Sounds like it went about as well as ours did.
[AI don't really count as synthetics - but if she's met any that count in that category, Carolina isn't aware of it.]
You have no idea. But it's almost done now.
I think we all are. Can't say any of us liked what happened, let alone what we became for the most part.
[That's...different. And has Carolina's attention.
Adjusting the settings and activating the network scrambler she'd picked up in the post-christmas sales, she replies once she's sure the line is extra secure.]
[ The additional encryption is nice... she's so used to EDI just handling the interface with her war suite instead of having to cover her own tracks. She really missed EDI... ]
Thought that might interest you.
Maybe it's better to say what didn't I see? Though given our entrance, I doubt we got them by surprise.
Spoke to an AI unit, saw some props. Was asked to make an appointment. But it was spotless.
